OK... OK...!
I've really slacked off with the diary lately. Just haven't had enough time free. Here is a brief summary with links in to the photo gallery for a better look.
Well, Loi and I met up and spent a wonderful three weeks together in Vietnam. We stayed at her parents in Haiphong for the Tet Festival (about 5 days all tolled) then went travelling together to:-
- Hue - Very peaceful town with some interesting sites but not if you find tombs and temples boring....
- Danang - not particularly great but spent a day looking around the Marble Mountains. Also managed to have a spectacular argument with a taxi driver who tried to abandon us in the middle of nowhere and then overcharge us when we got to where we agreed we were going! Much, much steam was vented! ;-)
- Nahtrang - Great beach. OK, OK I still haven't been to Thailand but the waves were high (3ft! wow!) so I enjoyed myself nonetheless... Loi and I managed to get extremely bad food poisoning here. From a western cafe too. The road side food places haven't let us down yet!
- Dalat - Beautiful. Initial disappointment with the town turned to joy when we discovered all the goodies were outside the town. Spent some time on tours then hired a motorbike with another couple and went trekking on some islands. Bliss...!
- Ho Chi Minh - Yep, I know I've been there already but we flew everywhere andhad to fly here to get back to Haiphong.
Right now I'm in Bangkok after having flown via Laos. Had to skip Laos as I'm cutting my trip a little short. I'm now due back in Blighty on 1st April. So in the remaining time my schedule is as follows:-
- 13 Feb - Sydney, Australia
- 16 Feb - Christchurch, New Zealand
- 21 Mar - Los Angeles, USA
- 28 Mar - NY, USA
- 31 Mar - London
Why am I coming back so soon? Well, I've had a great time and I've been to (or am going) to all the countries I really wanted to. I also have go tthe feeling back that I want to get on with my life which is something I wanted to avoid before I left.
So, no regrets!
