First day in Dehli...

Booked a tour of Rajistan today through the hotel. I figure the chances of a travel virgin like me getting around India and shock!! horror!! enjoying myself is quite small, so I'm playing safe. The tour encompasses Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pushkar, Jaipur, Ranthambhore National Park (to see Tigers!!), Agra, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and then a train to Nepal. Holy moly that sounds like a lot!

Took a taxi tour through Dehli to see some of the sites. Saw:-

  • Hindu temple - beautifully clean temple. Salesmen wouldn't shut the %&^$ up!
  • Indian Parliament
  • India Gate
  • Humayun's Tomb - Second mughal emporer's tomb that was renovated in 2000. Apparently the basis for Taj Mahal!
  • Raj Ghat - Monument and park to honour Gandhi's cremation. Apparently the museum has the gun that killed him on display! Macabre or what!?

Went back to hotel to escape from the throng, then went to Connaught Place (main shopping area) to get some grub. Goody!

Are you gonna release these as a 'John Simpson-stylesque' travelogue thingy on your return? If so, then can I suggest you pick up the pace a little with some in-depth shagfest type commentary. Its all very well reading about local hotels/satellite channels etc but what we really want to hear is how you ate the sheeps' eyeballs whilst riding the chambermaid.
